9m phone users have bought goods with their phone
An impressive 9 million mobile phone users in the US have used their mobiles to pay for goods at some point, it has been reported.
According to research conducted by the Nielsen Company, the figure is likely to rise too, with the introduction of smartphones.
With the rapid introduction of new handsets to the market, that figure is set to reach around half (49 per cent) of smartphone users in the near future.
Nielsen Mobile presented their findings, along with other interesting discoveries, at the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition in Chicago.
Women, for instance, are less likely to make a purchase on their mobiles, at just three per cent of subscribers. 4.5 per cent of male subscribers stated that they would be likely to make a purchase.
Nic Covey, director of insights at Nielsen Mobile said at the conference: "For many of the millions of consumers who are already shopping online or over landline phones, mobile commerce is an obvious and useful extension of that opportunity.
"As more mobile commerce services become available and consumers develop a greater trust for phone-based transactions, we expect commerce to be an increasingly important part of the mobile experience next year and beyond."
With the introduction of reliable and fast internet connections through smartphones such as Apple's iPhone 3G it is easy to see more consumers gaining faith in buying over their mobile.
