Camera phone war hots up
Three new snap-happy mobile phones are to be launched soon as the camera phone war becomes more intense.
Mobile Today was quick to cover the news 'flash' that pictures of LG’s KC910 (AKA Viewty2) were leaked on the internet last week.
An upgraded version of the KU990 mobile phone, LG's offering is tipped to hit the shops around October.
The handset will be released after the Samsung i8510 which is a bit bulkier but does have some stunning features.
Much fanfare will surround the new Samsung release as it has been pitched by the manufacturer as the compact digital camera killer.
Available on a £35-a-month contract on Orange from September, it certainly has the potential to put a few camera shops out of business.
The device offers smile shot and face recognition, which takes the photo when subjects are smiling (I'm not sure how this works for subjects such as Victor Meldrew). It also promises to eliminate the amateur snappers' curse of red eye and boasts 8GB of memory.
Also looming large on the horizon is the Sony Ericsson's C905, which also has an 8.1MP camera, and will be in shop windows in a few weeks.
You can trust the battery to last up to 380 hours in standby mode, while supporting a talk-time of up to 9 hours.
Aesthetically speaking, the C905 has a glossy black finish look, weighs in at just 136 grams, and is available in night black, ice silver or copper gold.
No less an authority than Mobile Computing News said: "It is not at all an exaggeration to call it a 'mini-camera' as it immediately reminds one of a pocket-sized digital camera."
In the camera phone market it seems that megapixel size is everything. The two major handsets for the second half of the year - the iPhone 3G (2MP) and Nokia N96 (5MP) - have attracted criticism for failing to set an industry example and extend megapixel capacity.
In other camera phone-related news, there are reports emerging that Adobe Systems is to unveil a version of Photoshop for Windows Mobile.
