Ericsson to provide mobile TV in Israel

Ericsson to provide mobile TV in Israel Better mobile TV services in Israel could soon be made available due to a deal between Ericsson and Cellcom Israel.

Ericsson has joined forces with Israeli mobile operator Cellcom Israel to provide a mobile TV service.

As a result of the agreement, subscribers to Cellcom Israel will be able to have access to live TV channels and video-on-demand content.

Ericsson will be the sole supplier of a mobile TV platform with a content management system and support systems for customer care departments.

A customised TV experience is promised for subscribers who will be able to take advantage of quick channel switching, an easy-to-use navigation menu and more sophisticated features.

Mats Bosrup, president and CEO of Ericsson Israel, said: "Mobile TV is going from strength to strength as operators expand and leverage their networks."

Over in America, Samsung and LG are locked in a battle about which company provides the better mobile TV platform. Samsung believes that its A-VSB is the best system for local channels to use to broadcast extra programmes for mobile devices. LG, with its new MPH mobile TV 'solution', disagrees.
