Handheld joystick could revolutionise mobile phone gaming

Handheld joystick could revolutionise mobile phone gaming The W760i model is set to receive a Bluetooth games controller designed in similar fashion to that used with the Nintendo Wii games console.

Users will be able to control their phone and play games through a Zeemoteā„¢ JS1 - a handheld device. Zeemote believe the technology, which will first be seen in Holland, will revolutionise the industry.

Compatible games will be provided on the handset meaning users can start playing immediately, but there will be only 14 different titles available to download from the Sony Ericsson website.

A date is yet to be set for its entry to the UK market but the phone also competes in other areas while offering its unique gaming experience.

A 3.2MP camera combined with GPS capabilities allows the W760i to compete alongside the likes of the new iPhone which boasts only a 2.0MP camera.

The iPhone's touchscreen interface and audio capabilities could give it the edge but game players are still likely to be attracted to the Sony model.

Weighing just 47g, the Bluetooth controller is small enough to fit in the palm of a hand and with a joystick and four trigger buttons it resembles a big development in mobile gaming.

One of the problems could be the lack of games. With only 16 available in total so far, hardcore gamers are likely to get bored meaning the options offered by the iPhone could be more tempting.

The new Apple offering has a powerful internet connection through Wi-Fi with access to a range of online applications.

Sony has brought their own individual technologies to the market in a bid to compete against the likes of Apple and Nokia.

Shake control, which allows users to change the tune they are listening to with a shake of the phone, is complemented by the motion gaming control - both of which are available of the W760i.
