New Sony Walkman E series range coming soon
A colourful new range of Sony Walkman® phones is reported to be coming to UK shores "in the coming month".
According to Sony Insider, details of the NWZ-E435 (2GB), NWZ-E436 (4GB), and NWZ-E438 (8GB) models have cropped up on New Zealand's Sony site. The website believes that all the new players will sport a 2-inch QVGA TFT LCD screen, be reasonably slim at 8.5mm and tip the scales at a handily lightweight 50g. The fact that you can get almost 30 hours playback is sure to appeal to music phone lovers. Battery life for video, meanwhile, is at over 7 hours. Drag and drop will make file swapping possible and the players' compatibility with both Windows Media Player and iTunes is most definitely a plus point. Details of colours but not prices are available. The NWZ-E435 will be available in pink or black; the NWZ-E436 in blue, black, pink or red; and the NWZ-E438 will only come in black. The Financial Times ran a story earlier this month questioning Sony Ericsson's future in the mobile phone industry. As the article pointed out, the company's game plan is still predominantly concentrated on mid to high-end phones, a market which in Europe seems to be saturated owing to the large number of competitors vying for sales. Just as Motorola seemed to have hit a peak after the fuss surrounding its successful Razr handset died down, so there are fears that the same thing could happen if Sony Ericsson fails to repeat the success of the Walkman® phones. An increasing number of analysts are sticking their necks out by saying that Sony Ericsson is too dependent on the Walkman® and Cyber-shot™ brands. Sony Ericsson seems to have acknowledged this - later in the year it launches the X1, a touchscreen smartphone and the first model of the new brand Xperia™.
