O2 helped by the iPhone effect
The appeal of the iPhone has attracted more shoppers to O2 shops selling the 'God machine'.
The iPhone is only sold in O2 and Apple stores in the UK, with people who purchase the £269 gadget having to sign a contract with O2 - the exclusive network carriers for the device.
This arrangement has contributed to the fact that O2 stores saw a three-fold increase in the numbers visiting its outlets over the past two months.
Not all these new shoppers have bought the new Apple product many of them have been labelled 'flirts' by industry analysts who observe that once they see the handset's capabilities they often splash out on a flashier model, though not necessarily the iPhone.
Regardless of what phone these shoppers plump for, many of these flirts will at least switch from pay-as-you-go contracts to monthly contracts. This is something mobile phone companies are keen to encourage, as it generates more money for them.
How many iPhones have been sold in the UK is still anyone's guess insiders say that a non-disclosure agreement between Apple and O2, will keep the figure a mystery.
