Orange introduces in-flight mobile use
Orange has made the step towards full use of mobile phones on planes this week, following an agreement with several airliners.
The agreement will allow Orange customers the luxury of making calls and sending texts to friends or business partners while on the move and in the air, according to reports. Commenting on the service, Mrs Majd Shweikeh - CEO of Orange Mobile - said: "The ability to use mobiles during flights is a revolution in today’s telecom world. "It is attracting massive interest from other GSM operators and global airline companies. Orange introduced this service as a representation of its continuous efforts to provide its customers with the most up-to-date technologies enabling Orange users to literally stay in touch with their businesses and loved ones, wherever and whenever." The technology is the first of its kind, with in-flight phones in business class being the only option until now, although at a high cost to flyers. While only a few airlines have signed up to Orange's OnAir service it is hoped, and expected, that many more will do so in the future. "OnAir’s service with Orange, called Mobile OnAir, is already operating with Air-France, and will soon be flying with TAP Portugal, Ryanair, Shenzhen Airlines (China) and many others to become one of the leading companies in the world that provides this service," Mrs Shweikeh added. The service will be available to customers with international roaming contracts. So, why not have the airlines pass a rule that says you can use your cellphone during fight, but only if you use a Conversation Privatiser like device? This makes a Win-Win-Win situation for ALL!Comment posted by Mark Snedecor on 22/06/2008 08:21:00 Reply Can't waitI can't wait to try that out.Comment posted by Anonymous on 23/07/2008 09:37:30 Have your say! |
