Second cop charged with credit card misuse
The first major new BlackBerry model in over a year - the Bold - has been unveiled by Research in Motion (RIM).
The latest handset, also called the 9000, has twice the screen resolution of the current Curve model, matching the resolution, but not the size, of the screen on Apple's iPhone.
It also boasts far more internal memory and a glossy metallic look, though otherwise it sticks close to the formula of the Curve, retaining the horizontal screen above a trackball and a keyboard with one letter per key.
The device comes with a full-size headset jack and a camera with video capability. It also has dual-band Wi-Fi, a feature previously only found on a model tailored for the corporate market.
No pricing scheme has been announced for the Bold, but RIM has disclosed that the phone should be available this summer.
"The new BlackBerry Bold represents a tremendous step forward in business-grade smartphones and lives up to its name with incredible speed, power and functionality, all wrapped in a beautiful and confident design," said Mike Lazaridis, president and co-CEO of RIM.
