Sony Ericsson talks up new Walkman phone

Sony Ericsson talks up new Walkman phone Full details of the new Walkman phone - codenamed the Feng - are expected to be announced by Sony Ericsson on 22 July.

The W302, as it will be more formally known, is likely to be aimed at the mid to low-end camera phone market, and is tipped to appeal to those who put style before functionality.

Press photos reveal an uncanny similarity to the W880: it is supermodel thin but has an Orange hue that is almost as bright as David Dickinson's tan.

Website TechRadar.com has predicted that the Feng is likely to be as cheap as chips - it will have a 2MP camera without any extras like autofocus or flash.

At the moment there is no indication as to whether this new model will have expandable memory, though a Walkman phone without this is almost unheard of.

The clever money is saying that the Feng could be a part of your life around October.

Meanwhile, the new W980i Walkman phone continues to win positive reviews by integrating the best features of an MP3 music player and mobile phone.

Andrew Boxall of Mobile Phone Handsets website was impressed by the gadget's camera facilities and the built-in FM transmitter which allows you to listen to any music stored on the W980i on any other radio device, "making it perfect for the car".

However, Mr Boxall was less taken with the fact that the camera has no flash or autofocus, and complained that "the lens has been placed in such a way that holding the phone and not covering it with your finger is difficult".

In other news which may be of interest to fans of music phones, Apple has announced that it has scrapped plans to cut its UK iTunes prices, going back on a promise to do so at the start of the year.

The company believes that exchange rate changes since January mean 99 euro cents now equals 79p, meaning no price cut is needed.
