West London to take part in mobile TV pilot
Orange and T-Mobile have unveiled plans of a multi-channel mobile TV service which will be operational in west London late in 2008.The pilot will involve customers using handsets with a technology called TDtv to receive ten digital radio stations and up to 24 high-resolution TV channels. Appetisingly, many of the most popular channels in the UK are expected to be included in the service. Paul Jevons, Orange's product and innovation director, said: "Orange was the first UK network operator to introduce a mobile TV service in May 2005, and is continually looking for unique insights and innovative content to ensure that Orange Mobile TV continues to grow. Bristol was the scene of a successful trial in 2006 and other networks will be eyeing the pilot with great interest to see whether mobile TV can prove both practical and popular.
