iPhone continuing to make a big impact
Orange has praised the impact of Apple's iPhone by saying that the 3G product has widened the interest in the market for smartphones.
Bringing 3G internet to the mobile phone market along with a host of other features, the iPhone has unsurprisingly caused quite a stir and a number of customers have already grabbed one of the new handsets. Its popularity may inadvertently be benefiting the competition too though. Tom Alexander, chief executive of Orange, revealed that the launch of the iPhone heralded a good weekend of trading within the industry. "People were excited by the product, came out to shop and found other great deals on the high street. Everyone has benefited from the iPhone," he revealed. Boasting music, camera, internet and of course phone calls, the iPhone has everything to meet consumer needs. In theory, its success should not come as much of a surprise, but Dominic Hulewicz of O2 told Macworld that they were seeing incredible demand for the product. This demand could explode if the latest rumours about the updates for the iPhone are to be believed. Apple is reported by Gizmodo to be filing a patent for a new piece of software that would allow the iPhone to wirelessly access a computer - from anywhere in the world. It would allow them access to their iTunes library on their PC from anywhere meaning the end to storage problems. Instead of needing to store songs and playlists on the memory of a phone, wireless access to the library would mean users could play anything from an extensive collection that can be saved on their PC. While the patent is something of a rumour and will undoubtedly need some development, it is likely to excite consumers. Meanwhile, the latest confirmed addition to the iPhone's technology is that of Google Translate. The service is expected to build on Google Languages and was developed by a software engineer from the advertising side of Google's UK business.
